HAR KI DUN
Har Ki Doon or Har Ki Dun is a cradle-shaped hanging valley in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. The region is surrounded with green Bugyals. It is surrounded by snow-covered peaks and alpine vegetation. It is connected to Baspa Valley by the Borasu Pass.This valley is about 3566 m (11700 ft) above mean sea level and is snow-covered from October to March.
The Har Ki Dun trail is famous for its changing scenery in each season. During summer and spring, pleasant temperatures grace the valley. Flowers are in full bloom and there is a delightful range of wildlife to spot. With the onset of winters, the valley experiences snowfall every couple of weeks transforming the lush green highlights into pristine whites.
Har Ki Dun Shikhar is a must see. On a clear day, you can see the snow-capped Swargarohini Peak, Hata Peak and Black Peak. This moderate trek has various aspects to enjoy, such as alpine flowers, open meadows, dense coniferous forests and views of huge mountain ranges make it a complete package.
Stretching over 67 km, the trek starts from the quaint village of Sankri in Uttarakhand. We will travel to the taluk on a motorable road. The trek from the taluk to Pauni Garat passes through the waters of Supin river. Along the way you will walk under a canopy of walnut, pine and cedar trees that open up to vast fields of potatoes and maize. The Pauni Garat campsite is a little further on, nestled in a beautiful clearing on the banks of the Supin River.
On the second day, the trek gets more intense as we head towards Kalkattiadhar, a distance of 8 km. The trail passes through dense oak forests and lush fields along the Supine River. Along the way, check out the sections that form some excellent vantage points offering magnificent views of the Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini ranges. A four-hour trek takes you to the Kalkattiyadhar campsite which is a wide open meadow in a valley surrounded by pine and oak trees.
On the next day, we will proceed to the summit from the Kalakattiadhar camp site. Be prepared for an early start as we have to cover a distance of 14 km. The trek gradient for the day is moderate with gradual ascents and descents. The trail climbs up through the thick forest before reaching the majestic Har Ki Dun peak.
